Elmwood was the name of the village that later came to be known as St. Louis Park. St. Louis Park was incorporated in November 1886, shortly after 31 people had signed a petition to ask the county commissioners to incorporate the village.
The city’s name was taken from the railway running through the area, known as Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway. The addition of the name “Park” was only to prevent people from confusing this city with St. Louis in Missouri.
